Historical and Cultural Heritage

Combourg region has a rich cultural heritage and history, inhabited since the Paleolithic. During the Neolithic [1], this human presence is revealed by proved by the remains of a megalithic monument, the path covered Chevrot. It is a kind of dolmen.

In the Forest of Mesnil, the « Maison des fées » or « Maison des Feins » constitues a great beauty place for excursions. Formerly, it was usual to associate fairies with megaliths. It is one of the best preserved megalithic monuments of Bretagne.

The Castle of Combourg and the « Lac Tranquille » e

During the Middle Ages, growths a powerful feudal power structure, this era bequeathed us the Castle of Combourg[2], built between the eleventh century and the fifteenth century on a hill, beside the « Lac Tranquille ». Later, the French writer François-René de Chateaubriand[3] speaks in his Memoirs about ghosts haunting the « Château de Combourg ».

Combourg and its surroundings have little to envy the Corsair City of St. Malo which draws nearly 200,000 tourists in summer.

The Cotes d'Armor
a very attractive coastline ...

La Grande Plage de Saint Malo offers sandy beaches, idyllic spaces located at the foot of the ramparts.

The beach of Guimorais, between Saint Malo and Cancale, extends along the dunes Chevret, tombolo linking Pointe du Meinga to Ile Besnard west. This arrow-shaped coast formed by the winds, tides and currents is unique on the coastline of Ille-et-Vilaine. The beach is busy but its wide open spaces provide a good peace.

Cotes d'Armor: a very attractive coastline

Ideally situated between the mighty cliffs of Cap Frehel hosting the indomitable Fort Lalatte, and the Corsair City of St. Malo, St. Cast Guildo is the ideal stopover on the coast costamoricain. Bathed in the blue-green waters of the Emerald Coast for nearly 20 km, bordered by a lush hinterland with wooded valleys, the peninsula of Saint-Cast le Guildo is a delicious mix of great beaches of fine sand , secret coves and breathtaking views.
